Our story
Beyond A Stroke Foundation was founded by a stroke survivor and caregiver who experienced firsthand how overwhelming the road to recovery can be — and decided to do something about it.
Mission
Our mission is to bring hope to stroke survivors and their caregivers by helping them overcome the financial, practical, and emotional barriers to recovery through assistance, education, community, and support.
Our Vision
A world where every stroke survivor and caregiver has the support, resources, and community to live a full life beyond a stroke with hope and purpose.
Our story
On an ordinary day in July 2023, our family's world changed forever. At just 56 years old, Scott suffered a hemorrhagic stroke that threatened not only his life, but everything he had worked so hard to build. He spent 21 days in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit, followed by 11 days in an inpatient rehabilitation hospital and five months of intensive neurorehabilitation, attending therapy five days each week. To this day, Scott has no memory of the first 18 days after his stroke—a reminder of just how devastating the experience was, not only for him but for those who stood beside him. Recovery became more than a destination—it became a journey marked by determination, setbacks, small victories, and an unwavering belief that better days were still ahead.
One of the greatest challenges Scott faced was aphasia, a language disorder caused by damage to the brain that affects a person's ability to speak, read, write, and sometimes understand language. Despite a lifetime of knowledge and experience, he was tested at approximately a third-grade reading level after his stroke. It was a humbling reminder that stroke doesn't erase who a person is—it simply changes the way they communicate with the world. Through countless hours of therapy, extraordinary perseverance, and the support of family, friends, and dedicated healthcare professionals, Scott continued to make remarkable progress. Along the way, we also discovered something else: recovery often comes with emotional, financial, and practical challenges that many families must face alone.
Although Scott eventually returned to work, it became clear that he could no longer serve in the demanding role of President of his company. Instead of mourning the future he had planned, he embraced a new calling. Today, his passion is to bring hope to stroke survivors and their caregivers by sharing his journey, encouraging others to keep moving forward, and helping remove the barriers that stand between survivors and recovery. Beyond A Stroke Foundation was born from that purpose and from a simple but powerful belief: there is life beyond a stroke, and there is always hope. We exist to ensure that no survivor or caregiver has to walk this journey alone.
We believe every stroke survivor and caregiver deserves to know that hope can be found beyond even the most difficult circumstances.
Every journey is unique. We meet survivors and caregivers with empathy, understanding, and respect, recognizing the challenges they face every day.
Recovery is stronger when no one walks the path alone. We are creating a supportive community where survivors, caregivers, volunteers, and partners can encourage one another.
Our mission is to help overcome the financial, emotional, and practical barriers that stand in the way of recovery by developing resources, partnerships, and assistance programs.
Everything we do is rooted in a simple belief: every stroke survivor and caregiver deserves hope, support, compassion, and the opportunity to build a meaningful life beyond a stroke.
Beyond A Stroke Foundation is led by dedicated individuals united by a shared commitment to bringing hope to stroke survivors and their caregivers.
